The guest composer Marco Stroppa
The composer in residence of Time of Music festival 2010 is Italian born composer Marco Stroppa. He has extensively worked with sound manipulation, artificial intelligence, and cognitive psychology at IRCAM and MIT.
Several works by Stroppa merge acoustic instruments and live electronics into a new spatial and acoustic entity, like "little i" for flute and chamber electronics or "I will not kiss your f.ing flag" quoting the famous poem by E.E. Cummings. Combining his sophisticated and intelligent visions with profound knowledge of technology Stroppa offers us his humanistic vision of sound architecture and spatial music.
Piano and choir have important role in his output: beside being a professional composer he is also a pianist, and graduated in choral music and conducting at the Verona conservatory. Recently Stroppa has written large scale works including "Like Milk Spilt" commissioned by WDR, "From Needle's Eye" commissioned by Ensemble Intercontemporain and "the great unknown" commissioned by BRD Radio Munich.
Marco Stroppa is working as a professor at Musikhochschule in Stuttgart, and he has also taught at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris and Lyon.

Ääneen (Aloud/Into the sound)
The 2010 festival focuses on two areas, electro acoustic music and specially on music with live electronics, and secondly vocal music, presenting particularly different aspects of modern choral music. The festival theme "Ääneen" indicates not only numerous sound manipulation processes of cutting into the sound but also the act of saying aloud.
